Technology advantages
Technology is a central part of our lives. It allows us to live in society and make it possible for the next generation of humans. The development of different technologies has contributed to this evolution, but also creates new challenges and questions. In an attempt to solve these problems we have developed several new technologies to reduce them or even eliminate them. Today we will discuss some characteristics of modern technology and how they can be found in everyday life.
The history of technology goes back to 4500 years B.C. when agriculture first started. Ancient Chinese were able to do farming using irrigation, which allowed for growing crops without soil. Then came civilizations like Babylon, Babylonia, and Egypt that helped cultivate the land and develop animal husbandry. This was one of the most influential factors in what would later become a human civilization. Agricultural technology was improved through the Roman Empire and spread throughout the Middle East.
Technology then continued its advance with many other civilizations. By the Middle Ages, Europe’s cities became cosmopolitan as well. For example, Florence became prosperous because of the papal court. That brought art, ideas, and people. Nowadays Europe is one of the world’s leading regions in terms of innovation and technology. As a result, there are more companies than ever before, whose headquarters, offices, etc. are located here. But not every city has so vast a tech industry and entrepreneurs, who create their solutions, usually try to bring something new to their home market. When you move around in big cities the streets often look very chaotic to navigate. Yet still, several startups aim to increase the ease of use of public transportation. They usually offer a solution that would allow people to use their phones, get directions, and pay using their smartphones. And if you want to travel online by car you would need to buy a subscription for Uber or Lyft which cost about 15 thousand euros. If you want to get from A to B using a bicycle it costs 10 thousand euros. What a lot of money!
At the end of the 20th century, we had the internet. We could see the future almost immediately. People now had millions of computers and people who controlled them were able to change all the time. Even without having power and electricity, the information can be stored in your computer and you will always have access to it, regardless of where you are. Of course, the idea of easy internet and cheap internet services is the subject of much controversy. Internet providers often find themselves at a disadvantage because they cannot afford to invest so much in infrastructure. The only way to overcome all this is by moving to dedicated ISPs, or Internet Service Providers that charge per terabyte, allowing huge profits to those who give out service. However, while owning your network, you can decide how much storage space you want per user. So, while choosing the best option, choose a provider based on your needs. There are four main types for connecting to the internet: cable, satellite, fiber, and Wi-Fi.
The last decade has seen large developments in communication technology. From mobile phone devices and tablets to laptops and smartphones. Thanks to these improvements, the internet is no longer just a place where information is stored or passed through. On the opposite, now it can open possibilities for connection and transfer of data anywhere in the world. The development of such high-speed communication tools as LTE (Internet Long Term Evolution) and UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunication Services), allows the delivery of data and Internet access. Another reason why you should switch over to private Internet providers is that they usually have a huge array of products for businesses to use, and also more opportunities to expand your business. To stay competitive, we need fast technological progress and a reliable and secure connection.
We think today people should pay attention to the fact that the price of digital goods is rising exponentially. You probably already have a laptop but there are always new models coming. I think you will agree that the prices of digital cameras, printers, etc. will continue increasing until everyone has the same access to everything, which in turn limits our imagination and creativity.
So what are the current trends in technology? Let me show you a few examples. Many startups come up with the new application of existing technologies. One example is Facebook, which uses artificial intelligence to analyze images and video content to improve news feed recommendations. Or Google which developed machine learning algorithms and allows you the ability to know exactly who is interested in any given advertisement, e.g. the company TGI Friday’s tries to collect photos and personal info to be interesting for customers. Most recently Airbnb bought Airbnb and tried to apply artificial intelligence to search results. These companies have created competition between traditional and newer organizations, but in the long run, only the former survive.
One of the issues with artificial information is that it is limited in quantity, and it means it is easier to create fake information than to verify data. Therefore it becomes important to understand it better and implement it in your business regularly. While working to establish a trustworthy data environment I always recommend starting small and eventually scaling up.
One possible problem is that you have to create policies and procedures when accessing data. Since Artificial Intelligence requires lots of data analysis and interpretation, we need to identify which pieces we can trust and use in one specific area. As soon as people are aware of how to deal with such risks they will not hesitate to share their information. For example, Uber gives you the possibility to refuse rides at bus stations, but is this free of charge, or are some drivers going to get their income cut? As a rule of thumb, I think businesses should protect themselves rather than rely on AI. We can never achieve anything big enough without good employees, so it is essential to maintain stability in this field and to attract young people. An efficient workforce will help you develop further. Also, remember that we are living in the middle of a globalization wave, the tendency that has brought great benefits and great troubles.
Therefore if you do not want to risk losing control of your data you should consider investing in professional services and developing analytical tools to make sure your data stays yours and no one else can reach it. In the beginning, there are several things that you need to work with analytics and machine learning tools. First of all, learn about these kinds of software and their capabilities. After that, you need to identify the areas you want to collect/receive and which sources are needed. Next, you will need to gather training material, for example, a website where you can get all the necessary documentation to work with the tool, access to the right tools, etc. Finally, be prepared to invest in customizing services and getting into business agreements with partners to support your work.
On the topic of privacy, if you wish to remain anonymous while sending information about your business, there are certain alternatives. Your name might appear on the system, but you cannot block it, nor delete a document containing it. Still, that does not mean that your identity can be shared with anyone else. Nevertheless, the options are growing.
